Evergreen Shipping, an operator on the CAT and NEAX service, advises that there is severe cargo backlog in Northern and Southern China that has resulted in delay and roll over on the CAT service.
The backlog has been caused by strong demand and delays to vessels in Australia impacting on arrivals on the return voyage to China resulting in vessel bunching and vessel gap in schedule.
The vessel bunching is resulting in port omission to try to recover the vessel schedule.
The below is a snapshot of the CAT service Week 31 to 33
Week 31 - SEASPAN EMPIRE 2223S
The carrier loaded greater than intended containers in Shanghai and Ningbo that has impacted on liftings in Shekou. As result approximately 200TEU will be rolled to the next sailing YM SUCCESS 164S.
Week 32 – Blank sailing
Week 33 - YM SUCCESS 164S departure has been delayed to Week 34.
The YM SUCCESS has faced serious port congestion in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane on its last voyage 163N. The vessel is currently anchored off Sydney awaiting berthing . It is expected the vessel will face further delay on its next port of call , Kaohsiung Taiwan after leaving the Australian coastline.
The delays in Taiwan ports are attributable to the current Taiwan/China political crisis and large scale military exercises occurring very close to Taiwan waters .
It is expected that the above military activity around Taiwan will impact on a number of vessels with carriers taking various levels of action to mitigate risk to vessels and crew and delay to schedules.
