ACA has been advised Melbourne’s airport ground handling operator dnata is experiencing delays of up to 2 weeks processing a backlog of cargo. Dnata management has advised ‘Staffing shortages are the root cause of this backlog, as we have had a large number of cargo staff in COVID isolation. Additional agency staff are being deployed where possible and our management team have been assisting the operation. The large piece counts which have made up the bulk of the backlog will ease shortly, with the cessation of all “cargo in cabin” loaded flights from 7 September. Meanwhile, inroads are being made to bring the backlog up to date with the current delay reduced to around 7 days. Perishable, medical and other special products continue to be checked in as a priority.
There will be delays in receiving Melbourne shipments because of the delays and our cartage operator, as well as Customer Service, will keep clients updated on deliveries. We understand other States are not experiencing delays to the extent of Melbourne, but we will continue to monitor the service levels and update clients.
